Adele is claimed to have declined a huge offer to record the Spectre theme before bosses looked to Sam Smith.
The singer - who recorded the Oscar-winning hit Skyfall with the 2012 movie - reportedly snubbed £5million available, declining the ability to record another song with the James Bond film series.
An insider told the Daily Star: "Adele was James Bond himself's first choice. Daniel Craig was actually keen and [director] Sam Mendes was 50/50 over whether or not to use her or even a fresh voice. Check out Stay With Me sheet music.
"Filmmakers were happy to offer millions but Adele was not ever up for this. How do you top an international hit like Skyfall anyway? It was too big a risk."
Producers made a decision to turn to Stay With Me singer Sam, whose theme The Writing's On The Wall will likely be revealed on Friday.
However, he's got given fans a preview of his Bond track on Twitter - and it is already sounding epic.
With an intro brilliantly recalling Dame Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger - that has been recently voted the most beneficial 007 song ever - Sam will probably be hoping his track can be just as iconic.
The star has almost been living living of a secret agent recently, requiring you to keep the news he'd be recording the Spectre theme under wraps for the full year.
He was long of this particular next 007 installment, but only confirmed earlier this year that he had penned the signature track.
Appearing with the GQ Men Of The Year Awards in London on Tuesday night, the singer said hello had been pretty difficult to keep your news underwraps.
He told Mirror Celeb: "I've been keeping it a secret to get a year. I just lied, I don't think I lied adequately."
